My process for making your story shine
I am an Australian- trained-and-based editor and am highly skilled in developmental editing, copy editing, and proofreading. I only edit Microsoft Word manuscripts using track changes and in-margin comments as necessary.
Although I am trained using Australian industry publishing standards, I am also trained using style guides and can edit international manuscripts following each country’s and each author’s chosen guidelines.
I will always offer a sample edit of an excerpt of your manuscript for you to decide whether you want to work with me or not, but also for me to determine if I am capable of editing your manuscript. I understand how important it is for editors and authors to get along easily and work together, so I will not force myself to edit a manuscript that I do not feel comfortable editing, and I will not take it to heart if you decide not to work with me.
Stories, genres, and authors I work with
I edit short stories, novellas, and novels in certain genres (listed below) for young adults, new adults, and adults only (this includes erotica). I happily work with LGBTQIA+, POC, and Indigenous authors and stories, as well as authors and characters with mental and/or chronic illnesses and disabilities.
I am most experienced working with fiction stories in the following genres:
Fantasy
Dystopian
Science Fiction
Romance
Thriller
Paranormal
Mixtures of these genres
If you are wanting to work with me but your story doesn’t fit into any of these categories, please feel free to contact me. I am excited to expand my editing repertoire. All of my editing services can be tailored to your individual needs.
I currently do not edit poetry, non-fiction, or anything below the young adult age range.

Also known as structural editing, this is usually the first step in the editing process. It involves looking at the story as a whole, focusing on plot development, character development, story structure and organisation, and world building. I provide in-margin comments highlighting strengths and areas for improvement throughout the manuscript. I will also include an editorial letter at the beginning of your manuscript that details strengths and improvements and my summary of the manuscript. For developmental editing, I do not make comments and track changes on paragraph structure, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, or spelling.

While some editors offer copy edits and line edits separately, I choose to combine them. Line editing typically looks at paragraph and sentence structure, eliminating unnecessary words, clichés, and redundancies to ensure optimal readability. I will not only make these changes using track changes, but I will also provide feedback and reasoning using in-margin comments to educate authors. Copy editing corrects spelling, grammar, and punctuation use, also using track changes and in-margin comments when necessary. This edit may include a small editorial letter briefly outlining common strengths and improvements.

This is usually the last stage in the editing process and only involves reading through the manuscript for any changes that previous edits may have missed. I will happily proofread manuscripts I haven’t previously worked on as I understand how important a fresh set of eyes can be. Because of this, I encourage authors I have worked with on previous edits to seek proofreading elsewhere, however I will also proofread your manuscript if that is what you prefer. If needed, I will use track changes and in-margin comments to note any changes.
